Why Widgets? Insight From Mocavo’s CEO
20 Feb 2012Yesterday, with much excitement and enthusiasm from the genealogy community, we introduced to the world Mocavo’s search widgets. With coverage from Dick Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter, word is spreading like wildfire and multiple search widgets have already been spotted on genealogy sites across the web.
Which sites, you might ask? Check out The Family Recorder, proudly displaying the Mocavo search on their homepage. Also, sampubco.com has added Mocavo to their array of other search methods. These are just two of many. Looks great, don’t you think? We certainly do.
Many people have been wondering why Mocavo would create such a widget for public use. Here is a great explanation from our CEO Cliff Shaw on why our widget is a win-win for both Mocavo and her users:
“This enables genealogy content creators and publishers, who may have little or no technical expertise, to now have access to a free, powerful and very fast search engine for their data. The vast majority of genealogy sites have no search engine of their own – we want to help in every way we can to make their great content discoverable and searchable for free.
We’re also reaching out to every genealogist and society to say: We want to help you bring your data online — freely and for all to enjoy. If you have records or indexes, please reach out to us through our contact form at http://www.mocavo.com/contact.”
Well there you have it, folks. Help us, help you: add a free Mocavo genealogy search widget to your site today! And as always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at support@mocavo.com. We look forward to working with all of you to build a bigger and brighter future for genealogy.
